About the Fellowship Competition
Quick facts
Eligibility: Newly appointed fellows must have received the Ph.D. between January 1, 1999, and July 1, 2005.
Application Due Date: October 1, 2004
Fellowship duties: Research on project that is the focus of the application, teaching duties in the Core Curriculum, attendance at Society of Fellows lectures and events and Core Curriculum training meetings, active participation in the intellectual life of the Society.
Stipend: $50,000 plus full fringe benefits. Each fellow is eligible for an additional $3,000 in research aid.
Housing: Fellows may apply for Columbia University housing.
Mellon Fellowships
One year appointment at a rank equivalent to that of lecturer. The appointment may be renewed for a second year. As Mellon Fellows, successful candidates teach a section of Columbia University's famous core courses: Contemporary Civilization, Literature, Music, or Art Humanities, Asian Civilizations or Humanities. In their second year, Mellon fellows may teach an additional one-semester course on a topic of their choice.
